Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported shooting at the corn maze at the Agricenter late Saturday night.

SCSO said it received several calls about shots fired outside the corn maze just before 11 p.m.

Management at the Mid-South Corn Maze said in the 16 years they've been operating, they've never experienced anything like what happened Saturday night. They said someone fired several gunshots into the air, and they plan to make changes to makes sure everyone stays safe.

"It sounded to me like a 22 caliber pistol," Jerome Gladwell said.

Jerome Gladwell was in his RV right across from the corn maze. He heard 3 gunshots around 10:30 p.m., and then watched a stampede of people running away from the corn maze.

"It was chaos everywhere, people running everywhere," Gladwell said. "Fifty or 60 people at a time come and dodging in and out of these campers. And the road was completely full."

Management at the corn maze said they had security on hand Saturday night. Several people going to the corn maze Sunday said they'll think twice about coming here after sunset.

"It would make me second guess a decision to come here at night," Adrienne Moore said.

"I think the day seems OK to me, but not at night at all," Reid Smith said.

Jerome hopes something changes, because he didn't feel safe last night.

"There's nobody here to oversee them or nothing like that, so they're doing what they want to do," Gladwell said. "My concern is, as it keeps going on, it's going to keep getting worse."

Maze officials tell us they are now planning to station Shelby County deputies at the maze. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is still looking for the shooter.
