Heat expected to break October records

We are only about two weeks away from Halloween, but temperatures are more reminiscent of a warm Memorial Day. Our average, high temperature in mid-October is 74 degrees and a normal low is around 54 degrees. However, temperatures will be running 10-15 degrees above that this week.

A strong upper level high pressure system will bring in southerly air and keep skies clear, which will help the Mid-South warm up quickly each day. Sunday was only one degree away from hitting the record and highs will be dangerously close to breaking records this week. Unfortunately, that means that high temperatures will be at or near 90 degrees Monday through Wednesday.

Monday’s high will be 89 degrees and the record is 88 degrees, which was set in 1953. Tuesday will tie the previous record at 90 degrees and Wednesday will have a high at or just below the 89 degree record.

Low temperatures will only drop to the upper 60s each evening, which will also be close to breaking record low maximums for the Mid-South.  You will have to run the air conditioning again and keep the yard watered over the next few days.

If you like cooler weather, a cold front on Thursday will be a real treat. Temperatures at the end of the week will drop into the upper 60s in many areas and highs will quickly go from above average to below average.
