HERNANDO, MS (WMC) -

Law enforcement officers from across the nation are in DeSoto County, Mississippi this week for mounted police training.

"They've come in from as far away as New Jersey and as close as Mississippi" said Green Gables Stables co-owner Glenn Stovall.

The former Memphis police officer said dozens of officers will be training with their horses on the property in Hernando until October 24.  It's part of training provided by the National Mounted Police Training School.

"They will face all kinds of obstacles: from sirens to fire" said Stovall.  "It's really something else."

According to the now retired officer, the training will help the horses handle the stress of law enforcement.
