Maryville, TN (WMC/AP) -

A tragic and terrible motorcycle crash on the famous "Dragon" in East Tennessee has been getting a lot of attention. That's because the crash wasn't discovered for more than 24 hours. One rider was killed, a survivor rescued a day later after his shouts for help were finally heard.

It happened when their motorcycles collided and went over a steep embankment on an East Tennessee road known as The Dragon. It turns out one of my riding friends, Mike Payne, was riding "The Dragon" as the rescue crews were working on the scene. New video he shared with me on Facebook show first responders lining the twisty road that's a favorite for motorcycle enthusiasts. It was some of those enthusiasts who finally heard the survivor's shouts about 12:45 Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened the previous day at 10 a.m., plunging the riders 50 and 100 feet below the road, which is famous for its 318 curves in 11 miles along the western edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Blount County Fire officials said the survivor was flown out by helicopter after an elaborate rescue effort.
