Heading into the Midway point of the College Football season, the Memphis Tigers find themselves number one in the nation.
No, not in the polls, but in a very important stat that could get them ranked as soon as this weekend.
Memphis leads the country in takeaways, as in taking the ball from the other team via fumble or interception.
The U of M has 18 takeaways so far this season, a remarkable state given the Tigers have played one less game most teams because of an early open date.
They average three a game, and have turned several into scores.
Memphis had an interception and two fumble recoveries in their last game at Tulane.
A point of pride for Defensive End Ernest Suttles.
"You're disciplined. You have to be disciplined when you face an offense like this." Suttles said. "You have to do your job every down. You can't pick and choose when you want to do it , you have to do it every game for 4 quarters.."
The Tigers, now 5-1, play at 24th ranked Navy Saturday. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m.
