MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

This year, men are taking a stand and speaking out at the second annual Shine your Light on Domestic Violence event.

The event is scheduled for Friday, October 21 at Tiger Lane.

Judicial Commissioner Kevin Reed is just one of the main speakers.

“It's the silence of good men that allows domestic violence to persist," said Reed.

Mayor Jim Strickland, Memphis Police Director Mike Rallings, and US Attorney Edward Stanton will also be featured

"I was the one who always ran to get help because I think instinctively you always protect your mother," Alicia Smith said.

Smith witnessed domestic violence as a child in her own home. She said she watched as her mother jumped from one violent relationship to the next.

She calls her younger self a silent victim, and is hoping this event will help others to find their voice.

“It's men saying no more. It's men taking a stand," Smith said.

This year, the focus is on men speaking out and taking a stand.

The event runs from 5-8 p.m. Friday.
