MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for shooting a tow-truck driver.

According to Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich, Joseph Proffitt, 30, and his brother, David Proffitt, attacked tow-truck driver Scotty Arnold in October 2012. Arnold was towing cars from an apartment complex near the intersection of Tulane Road and Shelby Drive when he was shot in the back, critically wounded, and left paralyzed.

An employee with Arnold chased and captured Joseph Proffitt. David Proffitt was later found and arrested by police officers. He still had a handgun with him.

Joseph Proffitt was convicted of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault in August.

David Proffitt pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and has not been sentenced at this time.
