Shelby County Sheriff's Office is searching for multiple people who robbed an AT&T store Friday morning.
One person was working in the store, located on Highway 64 in Lakeland, when one of the suspects entered and said he wanted to buy a phone. When the employee told him she needed to see his I.D., he went outside to his car. When he came back in, he told her he wasn't there to hurt her as he proceeded to steal about $4,000 worth of cell phones and iPads.

The clerk didn't see a weapon, but the man did have pliers in his back pocket. She called 911 as the suspect left the store in a silver Hyundai Sonata. Then, she hopped in her own car and followed him.

"Kudos to her for feeling like she needed to do that," Brooke Williams, AT&T customer, said. "Yeah, it was really brave."

"Man, she's brave, man. I guess she's just trying to do her part," Steve Hayes, who works in the area, agreed.

The clerk lost the suspect near the Dillard's parking lot at Wolfchase Mall.

"It's sad that guy can't get help and he feels desperate enough to do what he did and it's sad for the woman in there," Williams said. "She's probably scared and she might have children at home or fur babies who knows."

The suspect is still on the run and is described as an African-American man in his 20s, driving a silver Hyundai Sonata, wearing a blue striped shirt and blue jeans.
