MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Superheroes showed up to brighten the day of patients at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Hawkgirl first made appearances in the lobby.

Then, one superhero answered the call and saved the day for the tiniest of patients by bringing his Batmobile to Memphis.

The Batmobile arrived at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital Friday morning and the patients were able to meet their favorite superheroes. They each had their favorite hero.

"Batman," Jonah Honshell said.

"Superman and Flash," patient Tammer Newton said.

The Cosplay Memphis, along with the Batmobile, visited patients with the hopes of bringing smiles to their faces. That is something that child life specialist Amy Ford said is important for their recovery.

"Our whole job here with the child life department and with Le Bonheur is to continue what a child's job is, which is to play," Ford said.

Batman said it is an annual event to come and visit the smallest of patients, and the superheroes have a very important job when they arrive.

"We have a great relationship with the staff here," Batman said. "We do an annual superhero day. These kids need heroes and our job is to bring smiles to their faces, take their minds off what's going on."

Ford said even if it is for a day, the ability to take a child's mind off the fear and problems is extremely beneficial.

"If we can take away the fearfulness of a hospital, if we can help them with procedures, and just get them away from those fears and to bring an amazing superhero distraction, then we've done our job," Ford said.

After Friday's visit to Le Bonheur, the Batmobile stays in Memphis and its next stop is at the Memphis Comic Book Expo.

What a special surprise for these patients on a Friday afternoon.
