MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

When darkness falls Saturday night, the skies and riverfront will light up with fireworks to celebrate the grand opening of the Big River Crossing.

But, once the fireworks fade, the Mid-South will get to savor a new, permanent light show gleaming on the Big River Crossing and the Harahan Bridge.

Light strips line the edge of the Big River Crossing.

Memphis attorney Charlie Newman shed some light on the multi-million dollar brilliance coming to the Big River Crossing.

"They shine up on the Harahan. They're capable of 16.1 million colors," Newman said. They're fully programmable and are going to be pretty spectacular."

So, when the Grizzlies make the playoffs, you can expect to see Gold and Beale Street Blue on the bridge. If the Tigers return to the NCAA tournament, blue and gray will shine over the river.

Phillips, the same company that lit up the Empire State Building, will illuminate the Big River Crossing.

Anonymous benefactors gave millions of dollars for the new bridge lights.

"They really are astonishingly generous people who are serious about maintaining their anonymity," Newman said.

Starting Saturday night, the Mid-South finds a whole new way to shine bright.
