MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A family has filed a complaint after they said a Memphis police officer choked their daughter.

Police said the officer asked the passengers to stay in the car during a traffic stop, but the 15-year-old did not comply. Instead she got out of the car during the stop.

Investigators said when the teenager got out out of the car and did not follow the commands of the officer then the officer restrained the girl to get her into custody.

The girl's family said the officer grabbed her by the neck and lifted her off the ground. They said he broke her necklace and injured her.

MPD is investigating to determine if the officer used excessive force.
