Cardinals prospects in the Arizona Fall League

ST. LOUIS, MO (WMC) -

The Arizona Fall League is an opportunity for major league teams to get further experience for some of their minor league players.

Each team can send six prospects to participate. There are six teams in the league, and each team is made up of prospects from three or four major league organizations. The Cardinals’ players are assigned to the Glendale Desert Dogs. League play began a little over a week ago.

Outfielder Harrison Bader is the top St. Louis hitting prospect so far. In 27 at-bats, he’s hitting .370 with one double and one home run. He has 2 walks and 5 strikeouts, with one stolen base.

Catcher Carson Kelly has 30 at-bats and is hitting .267. He has one double and two home runs, and leads the team in RBIs with 10. He’s also added one stolen base.

Third-baseman Paul DeJong has 28 at-bats, hitting .179. He does have one home run, but has nine strikeouts and no walks.

Left-handed starter Austin Gomber leads the pitchers with 12.0 innings pitched. He’s earned two wins, and has a 3.00 ERA. He has 14 strikeouts versus only four walks.

Lefty reliever Corey Littrell has pitched 7.0 innings (third on the team) in four appearances, and has a 0.71 ERA with seven strikeouts and only one walk.

Fellow lefty reliever Ryan Sherriff has pitched 4.3 innings, racking up seven strikeouts and three walks.  His ERA is 8.31 in this small sample size.
