MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Two students at Bolton High School have been disciplined following an incident where a student was attacked with a stun gun just after 10 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, a female and male student at the school got into a fight in study hall. During the altercation, the girl pulled a stun gun from her bag and stunned the boy in the neck.
There were no injuries and medical attention was not provided to either student.
Residents in the area were surprised to hear what happened at the school.
"I'm really shocked. I'm surprised in study hall also. I'm shocked really," Larry Jones said. "I mean, study hall. You supposed to be studying or either asleep. Back in our day, that's the way it was. I'm just very surprised. At my last year they had two teachers in study hall."
It is unclear if a teacher was in the room at the time of the attack. Investigators have not revealed what the students were arguing about.
The girl was suspended for 180 days and the boy was suspended for one day and recommended to an "alternative program."
The Shelby County School District said the students were disciplined according to school policy.
