A one-year-old girl is recovering after a life-threatening discovery by a team of doctors at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

"Not in a million years I think that I would have a baby and she would have to go through such tragedy at an early age,” Quintrissa Everhart said.

Everhart said she rushed her daughter Lyric to the emergency room in September when doctors discovered she had an enlarged heart.

Lyric was diagnosed with acute heart failure. A team of Le Bohneur doctors successfully performed a heart transplant on the toddler Saturday night.

“My baby is all I have,” Everhart said. “Like, she's my motivation. Everything that I do, she motivates me to keep pushing forward and going forward."

Doctors said Lyric had an irregular heartbeat. Nurses told Quintrissa, a single mother, that Lyric’s breathing was off as well.

She said her daughter was in so much pain, she wouldn’t eat or sleep and can barely move.

With Lyric’s heart failing quickly, Dr. Umar Boston took the next step and added her on the heart transplant list.

“I think that with this form of heart failure, she would not have survived the year,” Boston said.

Their prayers were answered when a donor heart was found.

Quintrissa has nothing but praise for the doctors and nurses at Le Bonheur.

“Without them, my baby wouldn't be here,” she said. “Now just every day I wake up and just feel like God’s on my side this time.”
