MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A man is dead after shots rang through Frayser.

Three people were shot on Spring Valley Drive around 3 p.m. Thursday.

Two victims were taken to the fire station. One was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition. The second died at the scene.

A third victim was left at the scene, but eventually was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

The area quickly became emotional. The victim’s mother showed up and went running toward her son’s body, almost fainting as police held her back.

MPD Colonel James Kirkwood was emotional when talking about the senseless gun violence in Memphis. He asked the community to join him in prayer for the victims’ families.

“We can make a difference,” Kirkwood said. “We can change, but we've got to have some serious conversations with our children: our young men, our young daughters about violence. And we have got to begin to talk about how valuable life is, and how important it is that you stay around, that you live long so that you can be there for your family, that you can support your children."

Three people were taken into custody on Flower Valley Drive in connection with the shooting. It’s unclear what led up to the shooting.
