GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC) -

A Germantown family is looking for their dog after he went missing following a home burglary.

The 14 pound, black and white colored Shihtzu named Murphy went missing Wednesday afternoon from his home on Forest Downs.

Sharon Donovan said she came home to find her home ransacked and the dog missing.

"Walked in the den and saw the TV missing, and the mess, and turned around and ran out," Donovan said.

Donovan said not only was the TV missing, but so was her jewelry. She says the thieves went so far as to open wrapped birthday gifts.

"To take a dog--a dog is a loved one. A dog is a family member," said Donovan.

The family is now on the hunt for Murphy. They have placed posters around town and have started a social media campaign to bring Murphy home.

Germantown Police are investigating the burglary.

"He brings us joy," she said. "He is part of our family."
