ARLINGTON, TN (WMC) -

The Mid-South's religious community is stepping up to make a difference by building stronger relationships with law enforcement.

Pastors announced this year's theme of the Black Lives Matter event will be "Working Together We Can Do More."

Dr. James Adams said the development of strong relationships with law enforcement officers needs to start at home, but he said the church should also play a role in fostering those relationships.

He also understands it is something that will not happen quickly.

"It's not going to happen over night," Adams said. "I have seen some changes, but again it can be better."

The Black Lives Matter event will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. at Belmont Missionary Baptist Church in Arlington.
