OXFORD, MS (WMC) -

Ole Miss hoped to right the ship against Auburn at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, but things didn’t quite go the Rebels way as the Tigers won 40-29.

Ole Miss nearly abandoned the run game altogether; quarterback Chad Kelly broke the school record for pass attempts with 59. He tossed for 465 yards, but was also the Rebels’ lead rusher with 40 yards.

Auburn, meanwhile, ran the ball early and often, carrying the ball 52 times for 307 yards, including 236 from Kamryn Pettway.

Ole Miss fell to just 3-5 on the season and is in realistic danger of missing a bowl game.

Luckily, the Rebels schedule looks promising: they play Georgia Southern, Vanderbilt and rival Mississippi State and will need to win all 3 to get to .500 on the season. Their biggest upcoming challenge comes November 12 at Texas A&M.
