COLUMBIA, SC (WMC) -

Tennessee Volunteers took two big hits Saturday. First, Florida defeated Georgia to harm the Vols’ SEC East status. Then, the Vols went into South Carolina and took a 24-21 loss.

Neither team was able to get a ton going on offense. Tennessee’s top rusher Jalen Hurd was limited to just 16 yards on eight carries. In his stead, John Kelly had a nice game with 94 yards on the ground, but the Vols were outrushed by the Gamecocks.

Carolina’s Rico Dowdle provided 127 yards on the ground, and the Gamecocks did just enough to keep going.

Tennessee QB Josh Dobbs was mostly ineffective, completing just 12 of his 26 passes with two interceptions. He was bested by SC QB Jake Bentley, who was unspectacular but limited his mistakes.

This much is clear: The Vols are not what their preseason ranking hoped they’d be. They fell to 2-3 in SEC play and are sitting behind both Florida and Kentucky in the East.
