Not all is gloom and doom for the Memphis Tigers football team after Saturday's Homecoming debacle against Tulsa.
Tiger junior Spencer Smith earned a spot on the Ray Guy Award Watch list as the nation's best collegiate punter. Plus, junior Wideout Anthony Miller makes the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll for his record setting performance against the Golden Hurricane.
Miller, a former CBHS standout, had 12 catches against Tulsa for a Memphis record 250 yards and two touchdowns. No other Tiger in history has reached the 200 yard plateau in a single game.
Miller said the personal best means nothing without a team win, and he told his teammates as much after the game.
"Usually, I just lead through my actions," Miller said. "But I could see a lot of long faces and a lot of heads down, so I just felt the need to say something to motivate the team. I had to tell my team that we have a lot to play for. A lot of season left. I believe the majority of the team woke up today with a sense of urgency, like we've got to get this done. We've got to go back to work."
Miller and the Tigers next game is in Dallas against SMU on Saturday at 3 p.m.
