MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A school bus driving in North Memphis stopped when its windshield was penetrated.

Memphis Police Department initially reported that a gunshot went through the windshield while students were being driven home Wednesday afternoon.

Upon further investigation, officers determined a bullet did not cause the damage to the windshield. Instead, they say a rock is to blame. A hole, similar to the size a bullet could cause, was in the windshield after the rock went through.

Police said children were on board the bus at the time of the shooting, but no one was injured. WMC Action News 5 crews at the scene also said they saw students on board the bus when they arrived at the scene. However, Shelby County Schools denied those reports. SCS said no students were on the bus.

The event happened around 3:30 p.m. in the Klondike neighborhood on Breedlove Street, near Vollentine Avenue.
