MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed in Zodiac park because of an ongoing argument over a cellphone, according to Memphis Police Department.

Alana Tello was shot and killed, and five others were injured. Tello died just one day before her birthday.

"It's hard. It was hard last night hearing that," Tello's friend Holly Dean said. "That was pretty hard. You didn't expect it. Alana being the youngest and I wouldn't want it to be Alana. Anyone but Alana. She didn't deserve it whatsoever. She was too young and she shouldn't have been out here doing all that."

Alana's mother posted a message to her daughter on Facebook:

"I love you baby girl!!! I miss you so much."

Memphis police said the shooting happened at approximately 8:15 p.m. Six people came up to the victims and opened fire. The shooters had their faces covered with bandannas.

Police said five females and one male were injured in the shooting. A 16-year-old girl was killed.

"If you were having a bad day you could talk to Alana for about five minutes -- about five minutes. She would change your whole attitude," Lee Wooley said.

Dean said it was not supposed to end this way.

"The intentions was just to fight it out," Dean said. "Not have everyone shot or hurt or people die. You know we're kids. We're going to fight it out."

All of the victims are from Mississippi, according to Memphis Police Department.

"She was an awesome person. She didn't deserve it or anything that happened to her," Wooley said. "None of them women. None of them did - the guy, none of them."

A neighbor said they heard at least 17 shots fired.

Police said the suspects left the scene in a tan car. No arrests have been made at this time.

There will be a balloon release Thursday morning at 7 a.m. at the Horn Lake High School. They are asking everyone to wear tie-dye and hair buns in honor of Alana.

There is a GoFundMe page set up to help with Tello's funeral expenses. If you would like to donate, click here.
