MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

It's common for today's students to bring home harder homework. That could cause problems for parents wanting to help their children with school work.

But, a new program through Shelby County Schools is empowering parents to help their children.

Bruce Elementary is creating Academic Parent-Teachers teams to help bridge the gap between school and home.

"We as educators can't do this work in isolation by ourselves," Archie Moss, Jr. said. "We really have to incorporate our parents, our families, our communities. These meetings are our opportunities to bring parents in so they can figure out some of the work they're doing in the classroom."

Teachers said the program is part of their all hands on deck mentality.

The program is being brought to several SCS schools.

Wednesday night students were able to hang out, and even do karaoke, together while their parents headed to the classroom.
