MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The suddenly struggling Memphis Tigers football team received some good news on one of its wide receivers.

Junior Phil Mayhue was hurt in last Saturday's game on a catch against Tulsa at the Liberty Bowl.

One of the most reliable pass catchers on the team, Mayhue suffered a leg injured that looked serious at first glance. He had to be helped off the field and spent the rest of the night on crutches.

But, U of M Head Coach Mike Norvell said Mayhue is recovering and could be back on the field before season's end.

His place in the lineup is currently manned by freshman Kedarian Jones, who had 2 catches anda touchdown against the Golden Hurricane.

"It was a great touchdown catch," Norvell said. "Tight ball from Riley Ferguson. We capitalized on that opportunity. Kederian has grown throughout this season. If you'd seen him work in practice, even though he's not a stater, you'd see why he put himself in position to make these plays and he was ready when his number was called."

The Tigers' next game coming up Saturday in Dallas against SMU. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m.
