MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

More than 242,000 people voted early in Shelby County in the 2016 election.

According to poll numbers from the Shelby County Election Commission, 242,309 people voted as of November 3.

More than 24,000 people went to the polls on the last day, November 3.

That's a ton of voters, but it is not record-breaking numbers. In 2008, Shelby County saw 254,362 early voters turn out in what would become the election that put the first African American in the White House.

Shelby County polling places will remain closed until Election Day on Tuesday, November 8.
