A woman and her daughter came face to face with a gun in their own apartment at the Atrium Apartment Complex.

The woman who walked in on the burglar said the scariest part about the whole thing is that this happened in the middle of the day, when she and her daughter stepped out to get some food.

The woman asked us to hide her identity for fear of her safety. She said around 1 p.m. Saturday, she and her daughter went just about 10 minutes away to the Dollar Tree for some groceries. When they came back, a screen and the window behind it was broken, and they opened their door to a burglar in their apartment.

"He was in the process like he was finding something to steal," she said. "Like he went from room to room and when he saw us, he panicked."

The man, armed with a pistol, pointed the gun directly at them. All the woman could think about was her 16-year-old daughter.

"I don't know what's going to happen, if something happens to me, what's going to happen to her? I was pretty much thinking about that and she was pretty much thinking the same thing," she said.

Instead of shooting, the burglar yelled at them to get out. Less than a minute later, he ran away.

"I was thinking thank God he didn't kill us," she said. "Because it could have gone left, but it didn't. So I was just thanking God that he didn't kill us."

This incident has neighbors in the apartment complex on watch.

"It can happen at anytime, so never let your guard down," Gail Surrago said.

"We just thank God that we're here to tell the story and just to tell everybody to watch out for that guy, because he's around," the woman said.

The victim thinks the burglar watched them leave from the parking lot and then targeted their apartment when they were gone. Nothing ended up being taken.
