15 arrests made following Mitchell High School fight

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis Police Department arrested fifteen people in connection to a fight in front of Mitchell High School.

A woman is in jail after police said she attempted to free her son from a police car while he was in custody following a fight a Mitchell High School.

Police said a large crowd of at least 50 people were on the property. At least 20 people were aggressive and rioting.

An officer used pepper spray in the area in an attempt to control the violent crowd and assist in the arrest.

Police said during the fight, they took more than eight teenagers into custody for fighting. The kids’ parents came to the scene while a large crowd was still present.

Investigators said Carmella Hayes, 42, walked over to a squad car and opened the door to let her son out while he was under arrest.

Officers said Hayes was given a warning and asked to leave, but she refused, yelling “I’m not going anywhere until you let my son go.”

Police said more officers arrived and they were able to arrest at least 15 people.

Adults Percy Morehead, Reco Haynes and Seneca Marion, 35, were also taken into custody. Yasmeen Kiser was issued a misdemeanor citation.

Paramedics treated multiple people that were injured during the fight on the scene.
