MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A man is in jail accused of threatening and assaulting his girlfriend.

Police said the victim said her boyfriend, Louis Washington, 57, came home after drinking all day and started an argument with her over piece of candy she wouldn’t give to him for his niece.

The victim told police Washington then pushed her down and she fell on the couch. The victim said Washington then threatened to hit her several times.

The victim said Washington went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife, but he never threatened to kill her or raised the knife at her, according to the police report.

Washington denied pushing the victim.

Police said Washington smelled of alcohol and was taken into custody to prevent any further arguments.

Officers said the victim said she has been living with and dating Washington for 14 years and this isn’t the first time police were called for a dispute between the two.

Washington is charged with domestic assault.
