MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A woman is in jail after she pointed a gun at another vehicle during a road rage incident, according to Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

SCSO said the suspect, identified as April Akins, 45, said she was driving on Highway 51 when a tractor trailer abruptly slowed down, causing her to hit her brakes while another vehicle approached the back of her vehicle. Akins said the vehicle swerved behind the tractor trailer and she began following the vehicle, thinking it was going to pass the tractor trailer.

Akins said the other driver started driving erratically and began yelling at her and throwing things at her vehicle. She felt threatened when the vehicle approached hers, and that’s when she pulled out her gun and pointed it at the vehicle.

Deputies said the victims in the second vehicle presented a different story.

SCSO said the victims said they were driving on Highway 51 when Akins pulled up to the rear of their vehicle “so close you couldn’t see the headlights.” The driver said Akins continued to “ride his a—.” The driver said there was a tractor trailer driving slowly in the right lane, and once he was able to pass it, he did.

The victim said Akins drove on the right side of his car that she almost made contact with his passenger mirror. The victim said he pulled over to the right lane and Akins made a gun gesture with her hand and pointed at his vehicle.

Akins then pulled up next to their vehicle and pointed a gun at them. The victims said they called deputies and followed Akins at a safe distance until deputies arrived.

Deputies asked the victims if they threw anything at Akins’ vehicle, but both denied it. There was also no damage on Akins’ vehicle, according to SCSO.

Akins was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
