A Memphis teenager was indicted on murder charges after he was accused of killing and robbing a 50-year-old man in November 2015.

Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich said Marquavious Coats, 17, is accused of shooting and killing Jorge Robles Cruz on Durrand Drive.

Witnesses said they saw Coats go through Cruz's pockets, taking his phone and wallet after the shooting.

Weirich said a witness also told police that Coats pointed his gun at him, making him fear for his life.

Coats is being charged as an adult after the murder. Cruz’s wife was in pain after the death.

"It's very painful for me; I need him very much,” Lillibet Velasquez said.

Video shows Coats and another man casing the apartment before the murder. Investigators said Coats surrendered to police, but the second suspect has not been found.

"I saw the paramedics, the fire department, police were putting all of the yellow tape around,” Cruz’s friend Hector Sandoval said. "I walked out there and ran to the stairs and I saw him there."

Velasquez and her six-year-old son are still trying to make sense of life without their loved one.

"My son doesn't know anything; he loved him very much. He asked me, ‘mama Is my daddy not coming?’” she said.
