Southaven Police Department identified the man whose remains were uncovered in January.

Investigators identified the man found buried in a backyard on Stanton Road in January as Lawrence Houston, Sr. They said Houston’s remains were buried for close to six years.

University of Tennessee-Knoxville Anthropology Department researched the remains and discovered a firm identity. Houston, born in 1952, was from the DeSoto County area and had ties to both North Mississippi and Shelby County.

The location where Houston’s body was discovered was connected to Josef Schnabl, a man with a history of alleged violence, and Calvin Holloway, who owned the home at the time the remains were discovered. Holloway was found murdered in April.

Investigators are looking into the case as a homicide.
