MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The Mid-South came and gave during the annual Holiday Food Drive for the Mid-South Food Bank. The giving is now on pace to be another record year.

We're saying thank you to all who came out and gave.

It was the canned goods by the cart full and heart full.

Youth pastor Jeremy Griffin walked up from his church with 900 cans of food.

"We had a goal of 700 and we beat that, so we're really happy with that," Griffin with East Win Christian Church said.

Others turned out in numbers to give cash donations, where just $1 generates three meals. People came up and gave 20s....lots of 20s.

Maddie, 3, in Covington, gave all she had in her piggy bank to help feed those in need this holiday season.

Businesses also got in on the action and donated checks...large checks.

Bluescope Buildings of Memphis gave a check for $7,500.

"We hope to give back. We love to give to the Mid-South Food Bank every year," Mike Moore with Bluescope Buildings said.

It's the spirit of love and of a helping hand that is the kind of spirit that even moved a certain loved mascot to "pounce" on a pallette of food donations.

The food drive also drew out some legends for the Mid-South area.

"Thank you for having me one more time," WMC Chief Meteorologist Emeritus Dave Brown said, as he came out of retirement to help with feed hungry families.

For another year, the Mid-South came together and gave. As a result, more than 400,000 people in 31 Mid-South counties will not go hungry this holiday.

Last year, people from all across the Mid-South donated more than 24,000 pounds of food and more than $60,000. Those donations provided more than 200,000 meals for families in the Mid-South.
