Memphis Tigers forward Dedric Lawson is improving his status as one of the top players in the country.
Lawson was one rebound off a double-double double at the Emerald Coast Classic in Florida over the weekend with 19 points and 9 rebounds against Providence, followed by 35 points and 11 boards against Iowa.
His effort earned him Tennessee Sportswriters Player of the Week honors, and a spot on the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll.
Tigers Head Coach Tubby Smith said his prize forward can do it all, but his team needs to spread the wealth.
"We like balance," Smith said. "I want balance in our scoring. Balance--that's the only way you can be a productive, winning team. Now, don't get me wrong, Dedric can probably be that when we need him in the clutch. He can come up big, and we expect him to get better at that area."
The Tigers, now 5-1, next host Jackson State Wednesday. Tipoff is 8 p.m. at FedExForum.
