MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A former Memphis Police Department officer convicted of attempted rape was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday.

Darrell Malone, 30, was convicted in October.

A woman told police she left her laptop in his car after a date. When she went back to his apartment to get it, she said he raped her.

Jurors found him guilty of attempted rape and acquitted him of a rape charge.

One year of Malone's sentence will have to be served, then he will be on probation for the remaining three years.

Malone was immediately taken into protective custody after his sentencing hearing.

Malone was fired from MPD in 2014 after a driver accused him of flashing a gun in 2012.
