This weekend will bring thousands of people to Downtown Memphis.

People from all over will lace up their running shoes for the St. Jude Marathon. It's one of the largest fundraisers to benefit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

This year marks the 15th year for the event.

The money raised helps to provide medical care for free to childhood cancer patients like Chandler.

"It was right towards the end of school two years ago and I was just having all kinds of pain," St. Jude patient Chandler said. "Neck pain, back pain, headaches."

Multiple roads near Downtown and Midtown will be blocked off for the race this weekend. Those areas include parts of East Parkway, North Parkway, Peabody Avenue, Dr. Martin Luther King Avenue, and Front Street.

"This has a tremendous economic benefit to the city of Memphis and also this allows us to take care of our patients," ALSAC CEO Richard Shadyac said. "I would hope they would be patient so they can take care of our patients."

Parts of Poplar Avenue and Cooper Street will also be closed. But, it's a small inconvenience for drivers that will leave a large impact for child cancer patients.

"Because of St. Jude, I'm going to be at the half marathon next year running it," Chandler said.
