Ex-wife speaks of John Ford's situation

In his letter resigning from the state senate, John Ford wrote he'd be spending time with his family. But his ex-wife, Tamara Mitchell - Ford says the terms of his house arrest aren't allowing that to happen. Tamara Mitchell-Ford spoke to Action News 5 Monday about the statewide scandal that has hit very close to her home.

"It's been rather difficult, melancholy," Mitchell- Ford said in a phone interview.

Mitchell-Ford said melancholy turned to devastation last Friday when she learned John Ford would be kept under house arrest at the Collierville home he shares with long time girlfriend, Connie Matthews. Mitchell Ford says she's upset because the terms of the arrangement prohibit the former state senator from his normal visitation with their four children.

"On Sunday he picks all of them up from church and visits with them in the home and then has dinner with them and it's been a significant blow to them," she said.

Mitchell- Ford says this is the latest example of her children being ignored by the judicial system..citing her divorce from Ford that she says was never finalized, leaving child support and visitation issues unresolved.

That's why she plans to have representatives speaking for her children, when Ford heads back to court Tuesday, in an effort to get the terms of the house arrest changed.

"And I'm hoping that the judge sees there are two families involved here that need him, not just the family in Collierville but my family," Mitchell -Ford said.
