MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A new permit obtained by Memphis International Airport aims to allow passengers and airport restaurants flexibility and convenience when it comes to alcoholic beverages.

Restaurants in the airport do currently sell alcoholic beverages, however, passengers must keep them inside the restaurants.

The new permit will allow restaurants to provide customers with a beer-to-go option, making it more convenient for those who want a drink, but like, or need, to be close to their gate.

Memphis International Airport Spokesman Glen Thomas said although airport restaurants are not yet offering this option, they are taking steps to provide it. He did not say when the new rule will go into effect.
