MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Our next chance for severe weather arrives Sunday night when a storm system moves through the Mid-South. A warm front will lift north late Sunday and then a cold front will follow behind on Monday morning.

TIMING: Rain will become widespread by 7 p.m. Sunday. Heavy rain will be likely throughout the evening. Most of the rain will be situated along and south of I-40, so the major impacts will be in north Mississippi and west Tennessee. Rain will continue throughout the overnight hours and into early Monday morning. The rest of the day on Monday will feature scattered showers and storms, so many areas will remain dry after late morning.

THREATS: Heavy rain and frequent lightning will be the main threats with this system. Most of the area will not see any severe storms. Some flash flooding is possible in north Mississippi where 2-3 inches of rain could fall on Sunday and Monday. About an inch of rain is anticipated in west Tennessee. One or two thunderstorms could become severe and produce damaging winds and large hail. The tornado threat is very low.

There is currently a SLIGHT risk for severe weather, which means scattered severe storms are possible. The First Alert Weather team will continue to monitor this system as it moves towards the Mid-South.
