MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Bomb squad officials investigated a suspicious package for hours in Downtown Memphis on Thursday morning, but it turns out the threat was not legitimate.
The package was found at the corner of N Lauderdale Street and Alabama Avenue.
Police said St. Jude Children's Research Hospital called about a suitcase left on an overpass around 2 a.m.
Bomb technicians inspected the suitcase, but found that it was empty.
MPD shut down westbound lanes of I-40 for about a half hour while they inspected the suitcase, but reopened all lanes after determining the suitcase was not a threat.
