MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A man is in jail after hitting and killing a man crossing the street.

Shelby County Sheriff's Office officials said the man was hit by a car while crossing Lowrance Road.

The hit caused the man to go airborne and land in the opposite lane of traffic, where he was then run over by a second car.

The man later died from his injuries

The driver of the first vehicle drove away from the scene and was spotted running the red light at Lowrance and Hacks Cross.

The driver, D'Angelo Walker, was stopped a few streets down.

Deputies said Walker had a strong smell of marijuana coming from his vehicle.

Walker is now in jail, charged with driving under the influence, refusal to submit a BAC test, disregarding flashing signal, violating financial responsibility law, leaving the scene of an accident involving death, and reckless driving.

It's unknown if the second driver will face charges.
