Memphian Loren Roberts started the week with a bad cold, then had the pleasure of passing a kidney stone Friday. Not a great week healthwise for Roberts but you would have never known on the golf course.
In Kettering, Ohio for the final round of the U.S. Senior Open, he started the day tied for the lead at 11 under with Craig Stadler. Roberst was in search of his first major ever. The Boss of the Moss goes to work with the flat stick, birding number 9 to remain 11 under. The Walrus meanwhile blew up with a final round 76. But Enter Allen Doyle, who's comes out of nowhere with a course record 63 to take the lead.
Roberts meanwhile had trouble in the sand on 11 and made a double bogey. He needed to make this long putt on 18 to force a sudden death playoff, but it didn't go. He finished 2nd, 1 stroke behind Doyle who won at 11 under par.
Doyle came from a record 9 strokes back to win. Robert tied for 2nd with D.A. Wiebring for 2nd after a final round 73. In his first two events on the senior tour, he finished 5th last week at the british , 2nd this week. Greg Norman was 4th, Tom Watson 5th.
