Tennessee Waltz prosecutor resigns

The U.S. Attorney leading the prosecution in the Tennessee Waltz case will resign September 1.

Word started circulating Thursday morning that Terry Harris would resign his government post and possibly take a job in the private sector. This afternoon his secretary told Action News Five that he had no comment, but that a news release would be issued later today.

Action News Five received that statement from Harris's office moments ago.

"After his resignation he will join FedEx Express as Vice President, Customer Security Services," the statement said in part. "In his new position Mr. Harris will be responsible for security operations throughout the FedEx Express global network that connects more than 200 countries."

Harris has been instrumental in the Tennessee Waltz corruption scandal which led to charges against five government officials. He also helped indict former Memphis police officer David Tate.

Harris, a Rhodes College and Ole Miss graduate, took his current job in 2001.
