Tutwiler residents deal with leaky problem

Nothing seems to upset people more than government waste. In this case, the waste is water. Instead of flowing through pipes underground, its streaming all the way down Tutwiler Avenue. Residents say the water leak is creating quite a neighborhood nuisance.

"When friends come over park on the side you have to step over and again when the water was more stagnant there was mosquitoes and the smell," said Tracy Love.

Tracy Love and Randy Davis say it's been a problem for months, but they weren't sure where the water was coming from.

"It started out as a stream and I thought it was the church sprinklers so I set up one night and watched it and that wasn't it," Davis said.

They eventually found the source, and reported the leak to MLGW on August 5th.

"It makes me mad, cause the street is eroding away and I showed light gas and water where it was ten days ago and they put up the barricades haven't been back to do anything about it since," Davis said.

An MLGW spokesperson says the company couldn't do anything about it until they got clearance to start digging, approval that normally takes three days.

"I think it'd be real easy to fix," Davis said.

But until the fix is in, the water gets wasted. And the utility can't even calculate how much they've lost. An MLGW spokesperson tells Action News 5 this leak was on schedule for repair and crews will be on Tutwiler Avenue early Tuesday morning.
