Former Houston High Pitcher Matt Cain will make his major league debut for the San Francisco Giants Monday night. The 20 year old will take Brett Tomko's starting assignment against the Rockies. He'll become the youngest Giants player to start a game since 1984. We saw he pitch for Fresno here earlier this month and get a win over the Redbirds. His 176 strikeouts lead the Pacific Coast League.
Also former Mississippi State Bulldog Paul Maholm was called up by the Pirates. He's scheduled to start Monday night as well. He'll pitch against the Reds. The 23-year-old from Germantown says he was surprised by the callup because he wasn't on the 40-man roster. He was 7-3 with a 3.30 ERA in split time between double-A and triple-A.
