Gov. Mike Huckabee issued an emergency proclamation Wednesday afternoon allowing Arkansas pharmacists to refill prescriptions for one month for the evacuees from Hurricane Katrina. The law normally allows pharmacists to refill prescriptions for only 72 hours in emergencies. But there are thousands of evacuees in Arkansas from Louisiana and Mississippi who may be in Arkansas longer than originally expected.
"When you watch the coverage of the flooding in New Orleans, you realize many of these people will be with us for weeks or even months," the governor said. "I wanted to get this executive order done as quickly as possible so we can ensure they're receiving the medicine they need. We're doing everything we can to assist the victims of this terrible storm."
