Jared Britcher Named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week Memphis Wins Diadora Tournament by Beating Oral Roberts 4-3 Centenary 0, #24 Memphis 4

Memphis, Tenn. - Sophomore Jared Britcher </sports/m-soccer/mtt/britcher_jared00.html> of the Memphis men's soccer team was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after a weekend in which he recorded five points on two goals and an assist in helping the defending C-USA champion Tigers begin the 2005 season 2-0. Britcher was named the MVP of the Diadora Challenge, which Memphis won for the first time since 2002.
Britcher scored a goal in the Tigers' 4-0 shutout of Centenary in the first round on Saturday night. In Monday's match against an undefeated Oral Roberts team that Memphis had lost to in last year's Diadora Challenge championship match, Memphis found itself down 2-1 at the half. Britcher scored the tying goal in the second half with a solid head shot off a cross from Thomas Hyland on a ball that was thrown in by Dayton O'Brien He then assisted on the game-winning goal in the 4-3 comeback win when he headed the ball off the crossbar and Andy Metcalf knocked the rebound in to give Memphis a 4-2 lead.The win was Memphis' ninth straight at home, tying a school record set back in the 1992-93 seasons.
