Commission approves parking permit for residents living near Medical College of Georgia

Augusta - Richmond County Commissioners have approved adding parking permits for some streets in the downtown area near the Medical College.
Since last year, residents there have been complaining they can't park on their street and sometimes in front of their homes because of students.

The parking permits will be given out to residents living on Mauge and Blount Street along with Augusta Avenue for a yearly fee of $5. While the medical college is growing, commissioners say this is something that had to be addressed right away.

"I don't think the residents in that area should be the ones that are impacted by the growth of that University. Truth be known, there's plenty of parking for AU students. The problem is they don't want to pay to park," says Commissioner Bill Fennoy.

Residents on those streets will be given those permit stickers within the next three weeks. The traffic department says it will issue warnings to students before enforcing citations.
