MCCOMB, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A security guard subdued a man with a knife after he attacked his mother and grandmother in the McComb Social Security Administration building Monday morning.

According to Pike County Coroner Jason Jones, the attacker has been identified 21-year-old Branen Carter. Carter died of a gunshot wound.

The mother has been identified as Ann Carter and the grandmother has been identified as Lee Anne Turnage. Both women were transported to a local hospital and are listed in stable condition.

Pike County Sheriff Kenny Cotton said Carter entered a U.S. Social Security Administration office Monday morning and stabbed the women.

Jones says another relative told him the mother and grandmother had an appointment there and gave Carter a ride. The family came from Foxworth, about 40 miles east of McComb.

After a review of security footage and speaking with other family members, a motive was not determined for Carter's unprovoked actions.
