Memphis Grizzlies player Marc Gasol is doing his part to help people in need.

Gasol is part of a team from Proactiva Open Arms, a nonprofit organization that protects and helps those escaping war, hunger, or persecution in the central Mediterranean, according to their Twitter bio.

Tuesday, Gasol tweeted a photo of himself and his brother, Pau, with Proactiva rescuing a refugee who was found clinging to a raft in the Mediterranean Sea.

Gasol's friend and former Lausanne Collegiate School teammate, Carlos Taylor, said Gasol has a big heart.

"I can remember numerous times where he was being just a selfless person and always sacrificing himself for other people," Taylor said. "He's a passionate person. If you watch him on the court, if you watch him--anything he does, his gardening--what ever he does, he's passionate about it."
