Arkansas Governor sets a special election for December

Governor Huckabee has set a special election for December 13th to extend the current highway construction bond issue and to add a bond program for higher education. The measures would not increase taxes but would continue current funding. Huckabee made the announcement at Governor's Mansion this morning. The governor was flanked by state highway officials and presidents of many of Arkansas' colleges and universities. Voters in 1999 approved a five-year one (b) billion-dollar interstate highway reconstruction plan that is soon to expire. In December's election, voters would be asked to authorize the continuation of the roads plan and approve a new bond issue for colleges and universities.
